This year I’ve discovered the joy of breakfast in bed. Well, actually I’ve discovered our local farm shop sells frozen croissants that prove overnight and that staying in bed with these warm beauties, some fresh coffee and a magazine or book is really rather good. It has become a fixture.
The ritual of getting things ready the night before is part of the joy. I start with a wooden tray (although any tray will do) to hold everything. Then I choose a linen mat, or the perfect tray cloth. These are useful and pretty – their embroidery and practical size set the scene perfectly as well as catching spills and crumbs! A couple of linen napkins are also handy. Following with the cups, juice glasses and the coffee ready to switch on. Be sure to have a tea or coffee pot so you don’t have to get up for a refill and a jug of milk is essential. A pot of jam and extra butter are entirely necessary.
To make your tray you should use things that feel special, perhaps you remember the moment you collected them. Breakfast in bed is the perfect time to use your pieces. Time is so precious and time spent taking our time – taking back time, feels as important as exercise. Sitting in your cosy bed with your perfect breakfast tray is the definition of self care!
